Mental Hangover

The megademo that travelled

Scoopex's Mental Hangover was one of the most widely copied Amiga megademos of its era, a sampler of the platform's tricks passed across Europe on floppy.

Overview

Mental Hangover is the production that fixed Scoopex’s name in scene history. Released in 1990, it gathered a run of effects — scrollers, vector work, copper gradients, sprite tricks — into one continuous show, the very definition of the Amiga megademo. More than any single effect, what mattered was the scale and confidence of the whole.

It spread the only way demos could before the internet: copied disk to disk, swapped at school and by post, arriving on machines across Europe. For a great many Amiga owners, Mental Hangover was an early glimpse of what their machine could really do in the right hands.
