Kefrens
The Danes who named an effect
Kefrens were one of the scene's oldest groups, and the vertical sinus-bar effect they popularised still carries their name decades later.
Overview
Few groups can claim to have an effect named after them. Kefrens can. The “Kefrens bars” — stacks of vertical sinus bars that smear and trail as they move — became standard scene vocabulary, and coders still reach for the term today. Formed in Denmark in 1986, Kefrens were veterans by the time the Amiga scene peaked, having cut their teeth in the Commodore 64 era first.
Their 1993 production Desert Dream is their monument: a polished, confident demo that arrived at the height of the Amiga scene and remains one of the platform’s best-loved productions.
