ryg (Fabian Giesen) was a core coder of Farbrausch's size-coding landmarks, and became one of the most widely-read graphics and compression programmers outside the scene.
ryg — Fabian Giesen — is one of the names behind Farbrausch’s run of size-coding landmarks, the kind of coder who helped make fr-08: .the .product and Debris possible. Alongside kb (Tammo Hinrichs), he drove the group’s procedural tools, and in 2012 helped open-source a decade of Farbrausch’s internal tech.
Like iq, Giesen is a case of scene expertise becoming general knowledge. His writing on low-level programming, graphics, and data compression is widely read well outside the demoscene, and his public-domain code turns up in projects that have no idea it came from a 64K-intro lineage.
