Paradox
The warez group that wouldn't quit
Formed in 1989 to crack Amiga software, Paradox outlasted nearly all its rivals, moving from Amiga to consoles to PC and remaining a force in the warez scene for decades.
Overview
Paradox formed in late 1989, fused from the Danish group Trilogy and the French M.A.D., and started out cracking Amiga software with intros to match. What sets Paradox apart is sheer persistence: where most cracking crews lasted a few intense years, Paradox kept reinventing itself — disbanding, reforming under new leadership, and following the software wherever it went.
That meant a long migration through platforms: Amiga first, then Sega and SNES consoles, then PC from the mid-90s, and on into the modern era of heavily protected releases. Few names in the scene span as much of its history.
Fast facts
- Founded: late 1989 (from Trilogy and M.A.D.).
- Platforms: Amiga, then consoles and PC.
- Trait: Exceptional longevity across the warez scene.
Intros across platforms
Paradox carried the crack-intro tradition with them as they moved. The Amiga cracktro — scroller, music, group logo — was their early calling card, and the habit of fronting releases with a signature production followed the group onto every new platform they touched, a thread of demoscene craft running through decades of warez.
