Jester

Jester — Volker Tripp — wrote some of the Amiga demoscene’s most fondly remembered tracker music. Active from roughly 1989 to 1994, his modules powered productions by Sanity and Pygmy Projects, sitting at the heart of an era when the four-channel .mod was the scene’s defining instrument.

His tunes have outlived their demos: like the best scene music, they circulate as standalone files, covered and remixed long after the productions that first carried them.

The module as instrument

Jester belongs to the cohort of Amiga musicians who proved the tracker was a real compositional tool, not just a playback trick. Working within four channels and a handful of samples, he wrote melodies memorable enough to stand on their own — exactly the craft that, in other hands, carried scene musicians into professional game audio.
