8030 RETURNQuit with Q so BASIC is ready for a direct command. Attach or prepare an empty tape recording in the emulator, then enter:
SAVE "yearfall" LINE 10Follow the ROM’s prompt and export the recording as a TAP file. The Meet BASIC saving lesson explains the entry and storage workflow; use the current emulator’s tape export controls.
LINE 10 stores the entry point for an automatic start on loading. It does not mean “resume the last year”. Loading reaches the title, and S recreates the initial settlement. R does the same reset during play. A saved campaign would need a different, explicitly designed entry path.
Verify the exported copy
Open a fresh stock 48K session, attach the exported tape and enter LOAD "yearfall". Start playback. After loading, the title should appear without another RUN command.
- Start and confirm 60 people, 360 grain and 100 acres.
- Plan a purchase and then replace it with a sale. Check the cost/proceeds wording.
- Commit a valid year and reconcile opening grain, land transaction, food, seed and harvest with the balance.
- Reach a traveller offer, inspect its food requirement and choose whether to welcome them.
- Reach a decade review if the settlement survives, then continue to the next year.
- Restart and check that resources and history reset. Quit afterwards.
A losing run can still verify the empty-settlement ending. A complete persistence check also needs a surviving decade; one path does not prove the other.
A tape loads and starts correctly. Does that establish that R clears the traveller total?
Show the explanation
No. Loading checks entry from the tape. Welcoming travellers and then restarting checks a separate path and its reset assignments. Verify the behaviour you intend to rely on.
If loading waits indefinitely, check the tape name and playback. If it loads without starting, repeat the save with LINE 10 and test a fresh session. Keep the known working listing and tape together: the program’s source explains the rules, while the exported tape proves you can recover and run that copy.
